Sodium Perchlorate

Sodium Perchlorate is the inorganic compound with formula NaClO4. The high oxygen content and the high stability of per chlorates make them ideal oxidizers in fireworks and air bags and as key compounds for the preparation of ammonium per chlorate which is used as solid rocket fuel.

Process

Sodium per chlorate is prepared by the electrolytic oxidation of Sodium chlorate by using platinum, platinum-coated titanium anodes or lead di oxide coated titanium anodes.

NaClO3 + H2O → NaClO4 + H2

In-direct Process

(Same process but using intermediate sodium chlorate)

Raw Materials

  • Sodium Chlorate
  • Hydrochloric Acid
  • Sodium di Chromate

Application

  • Preparation of Perchloric Acid
  • Manufacture of per chlorates
  • Solid Propellant
  • Fire works
